Despite a lot of interest, companies aren’t close to achieving a complete digital transformation, but deploying of next-generation networks would help greatly.
IT decision-makers admit that their companies are still several years away from a fully realized digital transformation, according to a recent survey from Riverbed. The accompanying report, titled  » The Future of Networking, » indicates that the deployment of next-generation networks would help greatly, enabling organizations to maximize the potential of their cloud initiatives. Such a network would play a critical role in keeping up with the needs of both the business and users, boosting productivity and efficiency. So what’s holding companies back? Blame the continued presence of legacy systems, which have a difficult time keeping up with the pace of the cloud. In fact, survey respondents indicate that legacies are causing cloud-related network issues on a regular basis. « The legacy network infrastructures that have served as the backbone of enterprise connectivity in years past simply can’t provide the visibility, speed, security and flexibility that modern applications and workloads demand, » according to the report. « In order to make the transition from these legacy networks to a next-generation infrastructure, organizations need to invest appropriately to ensure that their digital transformation initiatives enable them to compete in the modern, cloud-based and digital economy. » The report includes findings related to the adoption of software-defined wide area networks (SD-WAN), and we’ve included some of those here. An estimated 1,000 global IT decision-makers took part in the research, which was conducted by Wakefield Research.
