The Sandiganbayan Third Division on Monday granted the request of former Vice President Jejomar Binay to travel to Taiwan and Hong Kong this month. « Acting on the Motion for Permission to Travel Abroad filed before the Court by accused Jejomar Cabauatan Binay Sr., through counsel, on September 19,2017, together with the Opposition (To Motion for Permission to Travel Abroad) filed before the Court by the prosecution on September 25,2017, which prayed for permission to travel abroad, and considering that the said accused had already been conditionally arraigned, the Court, over the objection of the prosecution, hereby resolves to grant accused permission to travel abroad to Taipei, Taiwan and Hong Kong on October 9 to 17,2017, » the Sandiganbayan said in a two-page resolution. Binay had asked the Sandiganbayan to allow him to travel to Taiwan as he was formally invited by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines (TECOP) to attend a forum scheduled on October 11 to 13.
