Nov. 5 (UPI) — Multiple soldiers died during a suicide attack on a security building in Yemen on Sunday morning, security officials said.
An explosives-laden vehicle rammed into the gate of the main security headquarters in the city of Aden, killing at least five soldiers and injuring 12 more.
« Fierce clashes between security forces and suspected terrorists escalated after the explosion, » an Aden security official said.
Gunmen stormed the security building and placed snipers on the roof after the explosion at the gate.
Security officials said security chief Shallal al-Shayae was not inside the building at the time of the attack.
The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing in a statement following the attack.
The attack comes after Saudi Arabia intercepted a missile on Saturday, which Yemen’s air force said was intended for the airport in the capitol of Riyadh.
Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates support Yemen’s U. N.-backed central government in a civil conflict against the Iranian-backed Houthi rebel group, which caused President Abdu Rabbo Mansour Hadi to flee the country temporarily in 2015.
