Not quite smartphone, not quite laptop – yes, it’s the humble tablet. Globally popularised by the iPad in 2010, you’d be hard pressed to find a household without one or two knocking about. But tablets are expensive given their capabilities sometimes match those of a PC or Mac.

Black Friday is an excellent time to be on the lookout for a cheap tablet deal. Retailers can give big discounts to big brands, from Apple to Google, Acer to Huawei. If it runs iOS or Android, as most do, you’ve got thousands of awesome apps at your disposal.

You can expect the odd bit of money off an iPad, so watch for retailers like Currys PC World and Argos to offer those. Apple itself doesn’t take part in Black Friday, but you could get lucky. Plus it does have iPads on its Refurbished Store all year round.
Android tablets are far more likely to be sold at great prices given their generally lower RRPs in the first place. However high-ticket Samsung and Google tablets can also get a good price cut so keep your eyes peeled – on this page.
Amazon’s Fire tablets all have low prices to start with, so while they may not see big ticket reductions, they can drop from ‘affordable’ to ‘essential’ with the right offer. The company has already confirmed plans for two tablet deals, with the Kids Editions of its Fire 7 and Fire HD 8 tablets enjoying discounts of £30 and £40 respectively from 17 November.
