Xbox One S offers are where it’s at
It’s a good time to be an Xbox gamer. Microsoft recently released its upgraded Xbox One, the Xbox One X, and although there aren’t any Black Friday deals on that system, the arrival of the holiday shopping season — and the Xbox One X — means that the Xbox One S will be available at a deep discount on Thanksgiving weekend.
Of course, there will also be plenty of Black Friday deals on Xbox accessories and games. We’ve collected some of the best offers below.
500 GB Xbox One S: $189.99 (regularly $279.99)
This is Microsoft’s official Black Friday pricing for the Xbox One S from Nov. 23-27, so this deal is available pretty much everywhere. Some retailers are throwing in bonuses. (Note: If we haven’t linked the store, it means that the stand-alone console isn’t currently listed on that retailer’s website — which may mean the deal is only available in physical stores.)
( Update Nov. 23: Walmart’s Xbox One S 500GB is currently out of stock, but you can still sign up for in-stock alerts through the link.)
Certain retailers will also offer additional deals on Xbox consoles. At the Microsoft Store, all 12 of the Xbox One S game bundles currently available are being sold with two bonus games — that’s a total of three free games, including the one that comes with the console. And from Nov. 19-27, shoppers can save up to $50 on any 500 GB or 1 TB Xbox One S game bundle.
Walmart is also offering $50 off any Xbox One S console. At GameStop, the 1 TB Xbox One S in various game bundles is already available for $299.99, a $50 discount off the regular price of $349.99. (That deal applies to new consoles only, not pre-owned or refurbished ones.)
If you happen to be looking for a pre-owned Xbox 360, you can get one at GameStop for free — yes, you read that right — after a $59.99 mail-in rebate, valid from Nov. 23-24. (Note that this offer applies only to the original Xbox 360 model, which was notorious for its red ring defect.) Best Buy is offering a free Xbox One wireless controller with the purchase of a select 500 GB Xbox One S console.
Multiplatform games are typically offered at the same price on all comparable platforms — for instance, if you see a Black Friday circular showing a discount on the PlayStation 4 version of Madden NFL 18, it’s safe to assume the same deal is available for the Xbox One version. With that out of the way, let’s dig into the deals. (Note: We’ve included links to multiple retailers if they’re offering the same discount, but this isn’t an exhaustive list of every place where a deal will be available.)
( Update Nov. 23: Post has been updated to include Amazon l inks for Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, The Evil Within 2, Final Fantasy 15, For Honor, Forza Motorsport 7, Middle-earth: Shadow of War, Prey and Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus)
Just like with consoles, there’s a standard deal that seems to be available pretty much everywhere: a $20 discount on Microsoft’s official Xbox One controllers, which drops the price to $39.99 from $59.99.
GameStop doesn’t seem to have that blanket discount. However, the company is offering deals on two official Xbox One controllers that are sold exclusively at the gaming-focused retailer: the Red (regularly $64.99) and Recon Tech (regularly $69.99) variants, which will each be available for $54.99.
( Update Nov. 23: Xbox One controllers from Target and Walmart are currently out of stock.)
Microsoft is also running a sale on controllers from the Xbox Design Lab, which lets you customize an Xbox One gamepad’s color scheme. Those controllers, which start at $79.99, will be available at a $15 discount from Nov. 21-27.
Aside from controllers, Microsoft is offering a $10 discount on a three- and six-month subscriptions to Xbox Live Gold, which regularly cost $24.99 and $39.99, respectively. Walmart is cutting the price of the former card a bit deeper, selling a three-month membership for $12.50.
Speaking of Microsoft subscriptions, new customers can currently sign up for Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass for just $1 for the first month. The deal on Gold runs from Nov. 16-27, while the Game Pass promotion runs from Nov. 17-27.
