Fort Pierce man faces several charges after getting hit by truck

Travius Ruffin was charged with assault, discharging a firearm, possession of a controlled substance and false imprisonment.
FORT PIERCE — A Fort Pierce man was taken into custody after firing a gun into the air and getting hit by a truck early Thursday morning, according to an arrest affidavit.
Travius Ruffin, 24, of the 500 block of North 13th Street, was charged with assault with intent to commit a felony, discharging a firearm in public, possession of a controlled substance, false imprisonment and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Ruffin was in the parking lot of a store on the 500 block of North 13th Street, when he was surrounded by numerous individuals, according to a police recounting of surveillance footage at the store. Pointing his gun straight up in the air, Ruffin fired one shot and scattered the group.
Once free of the group, Ruffin hid, but was chased down by a pickup truck, according to the arrest report. He was hit by the truck, and fired a single shot at the vehicle.
When the truck left, Ruffin ran from the parking lot, leaving behind two bullet casings, according to the report.
Ruffin ran to a nearby house. The resident let him in because he believed Ruffin was shot, according to the report. Once in the home, Ruffin pointed a gun at the resident and threatened him.
The man ran from the home and called police. When police came to the residence, Ruffin was still inside with three other residents, according to the report.
Police found Ruffin laying in a hallway. He was arrested and found in possession of three Alprazolam pills, which are a schedule 4 narcotic, according to the report.
Ruffin also was arrested on three other outstanding warrants, including one for possession of cocaine, failure to appear in court and assault.
As of Friday afternoon, Ruffin was being held in the St. Lucie County Jail. Bail is set at $93,625. Bail had not yet been set for four other charges.
