Google Assistant now available for tablets, and phones running Android Lollipop

Google Assistant is now available for tablets and phones running Android Lollipop or higher in India and parts of globe.

Google Assistant was initially introduced with the original Pixel smartphones. Soon after, the company rolled out the digital assistant to every Android smartphone running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and above. It also featured on some of the latest wireless earbuds from brands like Bose. Today, Google has finally released Google Assistant for all Android smartphones running Android 5.0 Lollipop. In addition, the same is now also available for Android tablets.
Now Google Assistant is available for all devices running Android 5.0 Lollipop, 6.0 Marshmallow, 7.0 Nougat and 8.0 Oreo. The virtual assistant allows you to use voice commands to set reminders, play music, recognise songs, set alarms, answer queries from the web, control smart devices like lights, ask about the weather and more. Assistant fires up when you use the “Google Now” hot word.
Maksim Mukha, Program Manager, Google Assistant said, “We are now adding Android 5.0 Lollipop to the list of devices on which Google Assistant will be available. With this our aim is to ensure that more and more Indians can get help from the Google Assistant. The Google Assistant on Android 5.0 Lollipop has started to roll out to users with the language set to English in the U. S., UK, India, Australia, Canada and Singapore, as well as in Spanish in the U. S., Mexico and Spain. It’s also rolling out to users in Italy, Japan, Germany, Brazil and Korea. Once you get the update and opt-in, you’ll see an Assistant app icon in your “All apps” list”.
Google Assistant is available for Android 5.0 Lollipop-powered devices whose language is set to English in the US, UK, India, Australia, Canada, and Singapore. It is also available for Spanish in the US, Mexico and Spain, and is rolling out to Italy, Japan, Germany, Brazil and Korea. As for the tablets, the assistant will soon be available for Android tablets running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and 7.0 Nougat in the coming weeks.
