Chinese state media: US government shutdown a result of ‘chronic flaws’

China’s state news agency in a new op-ed argues that the government shutdown in the United States shows Washington, D. C.’s “chronic flaws.”
The editorial, published by the state-owned  Xinhua news agency and written by an author named Liu Chang, notes that both U. S. parties are playing the blame game in an effort to thwart accountability for the government closure.
“Now that another lockdown is underway again, the two major political parties are as usual busy accusing each other of not doing their job,” the editorial reads. “Thanks to their unrelenting rivalry, many of America’s long-standing problems remain unresolved.”
The editorial, published Sunday, comes on the second day of the government shutdown, which began Friday at midnight when the Senate failed to pass a short-term spending bill.
