Eagles All-Pro defensive tackle Fletcher Cox stunned many in the media on Wednesday when he told reporters that he doesn’t watch sports in response to a question about his favorite Super Bowl memory.
He said in full, via NJ.com:
« I don’t watch football, » Cox said, when asked to recall his favorite Super Bowl memory. « I don’t watch sports… I’ve told you that before. I don’t watch sports. You know that. »
That answer was interpreted as Fletcher saying that he has never watched a Super Bowl before, which seemed impossible as a professional football player. Cox is 27 years old, and it would have been a fun story for an All-Pro player to take the field for the Super Bowl having never seen the Super Bowl in his life.

But has Cox really never seen a Super Bowl before?
After a thorough investigation, it would appear that Cox has watched a Super Bowl and let everyone know about it too.
Back in 2015, the Seahawks elected to pass from the one-yard line instead of going to Marshawn Lynch. Malcolm Butler intercepted that pass to seal a Patriots title. That play, of course, sent everyone into a frenzy. Cox was no exception.
Wow wow wow
If Cox wasn’t watching the Super Bowl, it would seem improbable that he would tweet, « Wow wow wow » at the moment of Butler’s interception about something unrelated. The timestamp was the same as his other teammates’ reactions.

I think Cox meant that he’s not a big sports fan and doesn’t have a favorite Super Bowl memory. But he definitely has watched a Super Bowl before in some capacity.
