BAY CITY, MI — An Essexville man initially accused of drunkenly breaking into his ex’s house and trying to rape her has received jail time.
Bay County Circuit Judge Harry P. Gill on Tuesday, Feb. 20, sentenced Joseph J. Wilcox, 50, to 270 days in jail, with credit for three days already served. Upon release, Wilcox is to serve three years probation, during which he is to attend two Alcoholics Anonymous meetings per week.
The judge held an additional 95 days in jail in abeyance, meaning Wilcox will only have to serve them if he violates probation.
Gill also ordered Wilcox to pay $258 in court fines and costs.

The case against Wilcox dates to July 31, when police responded to a Hampton Township apartment after a 28-year-old woman called 911 for an assault complaint.
