Connecticut man facing car theft charges drives stolen car to court appearance

A Connecticut man facing car theft charges drove to his court appearance in a stolen car Wednesday, authorities said.

Jonathan Rivera, 25, appeared at Hartford Superior Court on first-degree larceny and tampering charges for allegedly stealing a car on Feb. 17.
Auto theft detectives were outside the courthouse scanning license plates when they came across a white Subaru. Hartford police realized the car was reported stolen in Newington on Feb. 28.
Cops surveilled the car until Rivera came out of court and arrested him as he was getting into the car and trying to drive away, police said.
Rivera was charged with second-degree larceny and taking a vehicle without the owner’s permission.
