James Corden tricks the « A Wrinkle in Time » cast into crashing a screening of the film to « reinvent cinema » with a « bad school play » production.
“It’s exhausting being the man who has to reinvent cinema, but who else is going to do it, James Cameron?” James Corden asked at the top of Monday’s “Late Late Show.” “Alright, let’s call him. Can you get a signal at the bottom of the ocean? Didn’t think so.”
Corden’s genius idea ended up being to crash a screening of “A Wrinkle in Time” to put on a 4D version of the film with the A-list cast. Of course, Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling and Storm Reid were not thrilled to be part of such a bare-bones (and uh, uniquely directed) version of Ava DuVernay’s large-scale fantasy. Come on, a cardboard cutout of Chris Pine?
In fact, once they realized what they had been suckered into, Kaling called the whole thing a “bad school play” version of their high-budget film.

Winfrey was more confused than anyone, claiming she thought she was there for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Though Corden revealed it was his wish, so not a complete lie, we guess?
And the “Late Late Show” host was able to get Witherspoon on board by having her chant she’s “America’s f—king sweetheart!” and slapping him in the face.
Though the cast was less than thrilled with the final product, Corden said, “I think if Ava DuVernay was here today she’d say, ‘Wow, I’m glad I made the film so this could happen.’”

Sure she would, Corden. Sure she would.
