KABUL, Afghanistan — A large explosion targeting foreign troops killed one civilian and wounded nine others in the Afghan capital on Friday morning, officials said. The Associated Press reported that the person killed was a young girl.
“A car bomb was detonated when a convoy of foreign forces was moving on the road,” said Kabul police spokesman Basir Mujahid.
Mujahid said the attack in an eastern district of the city did not appear to harm international forces or their equipment.
NATO’s Resolute Support said it was investigating the incident, which no group immediately claimed responsibility for.
The Taliban and a local branch of the Islamic State group have been responsible for a string of deadly attacks in the capital in recent months.
Friday’s explosion came two days after President Ashraf Ghani urged the Taliban to join peace talks at a conference in Kabul, offering a cease-fire and to recognize the insurgents as a legitimate political party.
