What can we expect for weather on Thursday, March 29,2018 at Comerica Park.
The Detroit Tigers’ Opening Day is this Thursday in Detroit. We all know it could be a nightmare weather pattern for a March baseball game in Michigan.
Right now the early look at the weather shows it won’t be as cold as we might fear. But the recent trend in data in the past day is turning Thursday somewhat showery. At least it’s rain showers expected.
The first graphic below shows the temperatures expected at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 29,2018. You can get a feel for where the showers are forecast, with a pocket of cooler temperatures west of Detroit at 2 p.m. Thursday. I look for temperatures between 47deg and 52deg during the game. So that’s not as cold as it could be, but you’ll still want to bundle up for comfort.
The trend is showing a storm system forming south of Michigan Thursday, with southeast Lower just in the northwest edge of the weather system. Our data still isn’t super consistent, so watch for updates.
Below is the rain position forecast for 8 a.m. Thursday, March 29,2018.
The showers just entering southwest Lower Thursday morning may move northeast during the morning and early afternoon. Next is the rain position forecast at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 29,2018.
The rain forecast from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday shows just very light rain amounts of a few hundredths at Comerica Park. A little heavier rain is being forecast in that period southwest of Detroit. The motion should be northeast, and the next forecast period shows that movement.
The current U. S. model forecast shows just the southeast corner of Lower Michigan, including Comerica Park, getting into a few rain showers Thursday afternoon. Again, the exact placement is not etched in stone, so watch the trend with me this week. A good place to stay updated will be on our Michigan Weather Facebook Group. It’s a good spot for me to add frequent short updates on Opening Day weather.
So I’d expect more clouds than sun, or maybe even entirely cloudy skies for the Tigers’ home opener. Look for temperatures around 50deg. There could be a few light rain showers, but let’s keep an eye on that. If the storm slides a little south, it could stay dry. Right now wind looks like it will be light, with gusts less than 10 mph.
In all, the weather is going to be a lot better than it could be for a late March day at Comerica Park.
