Apple CEO Tim Cook addresses Duke University graduates

Here’s what you need to know to navigate the graduations at colleges around the Triangle.
Durham, N. C. — Students crossed the stage at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University on Sunday morning in unusually hot weather.
According to a post on UNC’s Facebook page, water stations and misting cooling stations were available around Kenan Stadium for graduates and spectators amid the 80-degree heat indexes.
Speakers at UNC included Rye Barcott, a social entrepreneur, U. S. Marine Corps veteran and Carolina alumnus.
Jim Goodmon, CEO and chairman of the board of Capitol Broadcasting Company, the parent company of WRAL-TV, the Durham Bulls and other media and real estate ventures, was granted an honorary degree at the commencement ceremony .
Tim Cook, the Chief Executive Officer of Apple, spoke to Duke University students Sunday about the importance of being fearless and standing up for social injustice.

NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY
– When: Saturday, May 12; commencement exercises begin at 9:00 a.m.

The commencement speaker is Marian Wright Edelman, founder and president of the Children’s Defense Fund. Chancellor Randy Woodson will confer 5,915 degrees – 94 associate’s,3,929 bachelor’s,1,595 master’s,200 doctoral and 97 Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees. A total of 197 valedictorians will be recognized for earning perfect 4.0 grade-point averages during their academic careers at NC State.
