The video game publisher and developer Blizzard Entertainment officially reveals that its team-based shooter Overwatch surpasses more than 40 million players.
As if it needed to be said, Overwatch has proven to be an incredibly successful venture for Blizzard, with the studio set to celebrate the team-based shooter’s second year of availability soon by way of an official Anniversary event at the end of this month. Now, though, it looks as if the company has even more reason to commemorate the occasion, as Blizzard recently announced that the game has surpassed more than 40 million players since launch.
As seen below in Blizzard’s most recent developer update video for Overwatch, game director Jeff Kaplan announces the player milestone and uses it as a segue into revealing a new free-for-all Deathmatch map called Petra, as well as the eventual return of all the title’s previous skins, Brawls, and other cosmetics to unlock. Considering everything that will be on the table during the team-based shooter’s Anniversary event, it definitely seems like a good time to be an Overwatch fan.
Prior to the major content drop coming at the end of this month, Overwatch fans have been continually treated to a slew of fresh materials, updates, and tweaks, as Blizzard has maintained a healthy amount of post-launch support for the title. Without a doubt, this constant attention to details in the most recent patch and those before it have assisted in giving the game a solid reputation among fans, leading to its huge player base.
All things considered, with Overwatch‘s community growing more so by the day, it’s obvious that there may be some players out there who are still learning the ropes as to how one should best approach the title.
