Lenovo and Disney have announced a new update to their Star Wars: Jedi Challenges game that lets users face off against your friends in one-versus-one lightsaber battles. Get all the details here.
Lenovo and Disney are rolling out a new mode for their Star Wars: Jedi Challenges game that lets players face off against friends with AR lightsabers. The mode, titled Lightsaber Versus Mode, is available now in the Jedi Challenges app on the Google Play Store and on iOS.
Lenovo revealed the new mode in a press release earlier today, stating that the one-versus-one battle component is “a first-of-its-kind.” This will allow players in the same room to see each other’s lightsaber and duel against each other.
Judging by the description in the press release, however, it may operate a little more like a rhythm game rather than offer a real-time battle where any move is possible.
“In Lightsaber Versus Mode, players are guided by visual cues indicating when and where to block, dodge, and strike,” Lenovo wrote. “As players face off, the battle increases in difficulty until one player claims victory.”
Star Wars: Jedi Challenges is comprised of three games (only one of which involves lightsaber battles) that see players train to become a Jedi Master. It launched in late 2017 and this newly added local multiplayer element has apparently been a fan request since the beginning.
While the app is free to download, the rest of the required components are not so wallet-friendly. If you want to get involved, you and your opponent will have to pick up a package that includes a Lenovo Mirage AR Headset, Lightsaber controller and a tracking beacon, all of which costs $199. That’s as well as a compatible smartphone to use as the viewfinder. See the official product page, including a list of supported devices, at the link.
Both players wishing to do battle will also need to download the latest version of the app from the Google Play Store, which you can get via the button below.
