It only took journalist Jeffrey Toobin three hours after Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy’s retirement announcement to talk about a potential overturn of Roe v. Wade on CNN.
“Roe v. Wade is going to be overturned… the states … will start passing right now bills banning abortion altogether… I guarantee you in the next year the Supreme Court will have cases that will challenge Roe v. Wade, I think it is doomed and abortion will be illegal in a significant chunk of this country in 18 months,” Toobin, a CNN legal analyst, said Wednesday on CNN’s “The Lead With Jake Tapper.”
Toobin reiterated his position on Twitter and wrote, “Abortion will be illegal in twenty states in 18 months,” on Wednesday.
Several other left leaders also signaled their panic at the possibility of Roe v. Wade Being overturned. (RELATED: Liberal Meltdown Over Justice Kennedy Retirement)
“I hope that my Republican colleagues who believe that women, not the government, have the right to control their bodies will stand with those of us who oppose any nominee who would deny women the right to choose,” Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders tweeted on Wednesday.
“The significance of a SCOTUS vacancy cannot be overstated: the right to access abortion in this country is on the line,” Planned Parenthood Action tweeted on Wednesday.
President Donald Trump has not yet officially selected a Supreme Court replacement, and Trump’s nominee would still have to be confirmed with 60 votes in the Senate.
