Netflix Picks Up ‘Mixtape’ to Series After Fox Passes on Musical Drama Pilot

Streaming service orders 10 episodes of show starring Jenna Dewan
Netflix has saved yet another series this season, and this one wasn’t even a series yet.
The streaming service has picked up Joshua Safran’s musical drama “Mixtape” for 10 episodes, after Fox passed on the pilot for its 2018-19 Fall slate, a person with knowledge of the deal tells TheWrap .
“Mixtape” stars Jenna Dewan, Callie Hernandez, Jahmil French, Campbell Scott, Madeleine Stowe, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Megan Ferguson and Evan Whitten.

Here is the official logline for the series: We all have our own soundtracks. “Mixtape” is a romantic musical drama that looks at the love stories connecting a diverse, disparate group of people in contemporary Los Angeles through the music that lives inside their hearts and minds.
Safran penned the script and executive produces, along with Megan Ellison, Sue Naegle and Ali Krug executive produce. Jesse Peretz directed the pilot.
“Mixtape” hails from Annapurna Pictures in association with 20th Century Fox Television and Fox 21 Television Studios.
