A petition to save Microsoft’s long-rumored and possibly delayed Andromeda « Surface Phone » device has already been started, and has amassed over 3,000 supporters in the last couple of days.
For the past couple of years, rumors have been floating around about Microsoft working on a dual-screen pocketable device codenamed « Andromeda » – dubbed « Surface Phone » by many. According to some reports, the hardware would be powered by a UWP-centric operating system instead of legacy Windows.
However, a couple of days ago, news emerged that the ambitious project has been put on hold for the time being, a delay which could possibly end with the device being canceled. Now, petitions have already been started by fans to save this yet-unannounced Surface Phone.
One Surface Phone proponent, Zachary Hinski, has taken to Change.org to « show Microsoft the demand » for the device, saying that:
The petition has amassed over 3,000 supporters in the past day or so, and is starting to gain momentum. Several voters in the comments section have noted that they are tired of Android and iOS and need Microsoft to make a return to the mobile market.
The nature of the petition itself is rather interesting. It is attempting to « save » a device that Microsoft has never publicly confirmed, and one that will likely need more than the support of a few thousand fans, should it ever launch.
It is also important to note the suggested « $799-$999 » price bracket in the petition. Seeing the purported capabilities of the device, its form factor, and current market trends, it’s bound to cost way more than the aforementioned price – if it ever comes to the market, of course.
