Lanny Davis, the lawyer for Michael Cohen, is pleading for donations so that his client can continue to tell the truth about the investigation into President Trump.
“Right now, Michael Cohen needs help from the American people to tell the truth, and we’ve set up a website,” Davis said Wednesday on NBC’s “Today” show, one of a number of appearances he made to tout the fund.
“The Michael Cohen Truth Fund” was created on a GoFundMe page and seeks to raise $500,000.
By Wednesday morning, 569 people had donated $23,319.
“Michael decided to put his family and his country first. Now Michael needs your financial help – to pay his legal fees,” a statement on the site says.
The appeal for cash comes after the Real Deal reported that Cohen unloaded a couple of apartment buildings in the East Village and the Upper East Side totaling $9 million.
Cohen, Trump’s longtime personal lawyer, pleaded guilty to eight felony charges in federal court on Tuesday – including campaign finance violations and tax evasion.
He admitted that Trump directed him to pay off two women who alleged they had affairs with Trump “for the principal purpose of influencing the election.”
Playboy playmate Karen McDougal and former porn star Stormy Daniels both claimed to have an affair with Trump between 2006 and 2007.
