The leading gaming laptops and accessories manufacturer Razer treaded into the smartphone industry last year with the launch of its Razor Phone ( first impressions). While the smartphone arrived with top-of-the-line specs and one of the best speakers, fans were disappointed to see that the signature RGB lighting was missing from the handset. However, that’s now changed with the second-generation Razer Phone 2, which was officially announced today.
Design-wise, the Razer Phone 2 is not much different from its predecessor except for two prominent changes. The customisable Razer Chroma RGB logo on the rear panel and the dual camera module, which has moved from the top left corner towards the center of the rear panel. Apart from this, the smartphone has the same dual front firing loudspeakers with massive bezels and blocky construct. The smartphone ships with a 5.72-inch display with QHD resolution and up to 120Hz refresh rate. Another additional detail happens to be the IP67 rating for water and dust resistance, which its predecessor skipped.
As for the performance, the smartphone comes powered by the latest Snapdragon 845 chipset backed by massive 8GB of RAM and 64GB storage. The smartphone also gets a vapor chamber cooling, which helps in keeping the thermal throttling in check while gaming. The imaging department boasts of a 12-megapixel + 13-megapixel shooter on the back with the latter being a 2x telephoto lens. For selfies there is an 8-megapixel shooter on the front. The handset sips power from a massive 4,000mAh battery and this time around gets wireless charging as well. In the software department, the handset boots Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with Razer’s Cortex feature, which gives users recommendations for games that are optimized for the phone.
As for the pricing, the handset maker has launched the smartphone with a sticker price of $799 (~Rs 59,500). The smartphone is being offered in two hues – Mirror Black and Satin Black, with the latter coming later in this year. The handset will go on pre-orders in the US starting today.
