A victim of the California shooting rampage was a Marine who helped other military members adjust to civilian life when they returned from overseas.
Daniel Manrique, 33, had received a new job with an organization that works to help veterans just before he was fatally shot by a gunman at the Borderline Bar in Thousand Oaks.
“It is with the most shattered and heavy heart that I’m writing this post to let everyone know that Daniel Manrique was at Borderline last night,” a relative wrote on Facebook Thursday .
“He was shot and killed in an absolutely senseless act of violence that we will never understand.”
The relative, Gladys Manrique Koscak, said Daniel had “spent his entire adult life, post military service, helping veterans readjust to civilian life.”
The organization Team Red, White & Blue, which works with veterans, said Manrique was an employee and they were “heartbroken” to share the news of his death.
On Wednesday night, gunman Ian David Long opened fire inside the Borderline Bar, killing 12 people.
