Grenade attack at prayer hall in India kills 3, injures 10

A grenade flung at a religious gathering exploded, killing three people and injuring 10 others in northern India.
Nov. 18 (UPI) — A grenade flung at a religious gathering exploded, killing three people and injuring 10 others in northern India.
About 500 were in the irankari sect’s congregation venue in Punjab’s Amritsar district when two youths, with their faces covered, rode to the building, and lobbed the grenade and escaped, a police officer said in a report by the Khaleejtimes .
The venue is near the international airport.
« My heart goes out to victims of the Amritsar bomb blast & their families, » Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh posted on Twitter . « My govt will give Rs 5 lakh [$6,965] to the kin of each of the dead and free treatment to injured. Have asked district administration to extend all help. »
The attack came in wake of a high alert issued by the Punjab police that six to seven terrorists had entered the state.
« I appeal to the people of Punjab to maintain peace in wake of Amritsar bomb blast, » Sing tweeted. « I urge them not to panic and to remain calm. We will not let the forces of terror destroy our hard earned peace. »
New Delhi and National Capital Region are high alert after the blast.
Arvind Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party chief and the Delhi chief minister, tweeted: « A cowardly act. We strongly condemn it. »
