An advocate for Texas narcotics officers — reeling after five cops were shot during a drug raid — is imploring Congress to stop bickering with President Trump and fund his wall to stem a spike in drugs and violence coming from Mexico.
“It’s sad, ’cause it’s all a political game,” said Corky Schalchlin, a retired narcotics cop who is executive director of the Texas Officer Narcotics Association.“The guys on the ground, the worker guys, they see past that and they know what works. They know barriers, walls would work.”
Texas is on the front lines of the drug war, with Mexican cartels exploiting the long border to funnel drugs into the United States — including 90 percent of the heroin in this country.
