This Sunday, for the third time in his 34-year career, Jonathan Martin hopes to bring home a Grammy Award.
Martin makes up one-third of Arkansas-born Christian vocal group The Martins. He’s traveled the world with his sisters Joyce and Judy, singing in theaters and worship halls. They’ve filmed skydiving music videos and connect with fans on week-long cruises through the Caribbean.
The Martins vied for a golden gramophone in 1998 and again in 2015, only to come home empty-handed. Would it be validating to earn recognition on music’s biggest night? Of course.
Still, Martin’s content with being nominated.
“If you’re in this top five, you’ve gone through what it takes to win. But only one person can win,” said Jonathan Martin, who moved 16 years ago to Clive with his Iowa-raised wife, Dara Makohoniuk. “It’s an huge achievement just to make it to that top five.”
The Martins earned a “Best Roots Gospel Album” nomination this year for “Still Standing,” an 11-track studio album packed with piano-and-guitar Southern gospel.
