American Airlines' Four Unions Have Divergent Views Regarding Boeing 737 Max Safety

The four labor unions at American Airlines have differing views on what to do about the controversial Boeing 737MAX.

At the world’s largest airlines, the four principal unions all have different takes on whether it is safe to fly the Boeing 737 Max.
The Allied Pilots Association, representing 15,000 American Airlines pilots, says it “remains confident in the Boeing 737 Max and in our members ability to safely fly it.” The Association of Professional Flight Attendants, representing 27,000 flight attendants, has said the airline should consider ground its 24 MAX 8 aircraft and that its members “will not be forced to fly if they feel unsafe.”
The International Association of Machinists and the Transport Workers Union jointly represent 30,000 fleet service workers, mechanics and other related employees. The TWU says the airplane should be grounded. The IAM says it needs to know more about the crash of Ethiopian Airlines Flight xxx on xx before it calls for action.
The Boeing 737 Max has been engulfed in controversy since the crash of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 on Sunday. The crash occurred shortly after takeoff from Addis Ababa; all 157 people aboard were killed. It followed by five months the October 29 crash of Lion Air Flight 610, also a Boeing 737 Max, shortly after takeoff from Jakarta.
