On Tuesday, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio responded to the recent incident in Central Park where a white woman called the cops on a black man as « racism, plain and simple. »
« The video out of Central Park is racism, plain and simple. She called the police BECAUSE he was a Black man. Even though she was the one breaking the rules. She decided he was the criminal and we know why, » de Blasio wrote on his Twitter account. « This kind of hatred has no place in our city. »
De Blasio’s comments come shortly after videos of the incident surfaced across social media and sparked outrage among many.
The video was first posted to Facebook by Christian Cooper, who encountered the woman, that was later identified as Amy Cooper, VP of Investment Solutions at Franklin Templeton. In the video, Christian Cooper can be seen asking her to place her dog on a leash, as she is walking through the Ramble, a protected nature reserve located within Central Park.
