Florida reports 4,752 new COVID-19 cases, a decline after testing sites closed for Tropical Storm Isaias

Florida posted 4,752 new cases of COVID-19 Monday, an unusually low number likely skewed by the closure of testing sites last week for Tropical Storm Isaias.

(Tribune News Service) – Florida posted 4,752 new cases of COVID-19 Monday, an unusually low number likely skewed by the closure of testing sites last week for Tropical Storm Isaias. The case total is the lowest since June 23, when the state posted 3,286. But many testing sites had been closed starting Thursday and many remain closed. The tropical storm may have also affected the logging and reporting of test results that came in from previous days. There were 73 new deaths, bringing the total to 7,279, according to the Florida Department of Health, which posts daily updates. New test totals reflect the staggered results of a few days’ worth of swabs, and Mondays typically produce lower numbers because of the weekend. But the seven-day average, which smooths out day-to-day dips and spikes, has been declining since July 17.
