Two Massachusetts heavyweights are slated to speak in a Democratic National Convention lineup that runs the gamut from the party’s old guard to its rising stars. The convention committee named U. S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren and former Secretary of State John Kerry among the slew of speakers it announced Tuesday morning ahead of next week’s event. The virtual affair will take place over four nights, airing on the convention’s website between 9 and 11 p.m. Aug.17-20. Kerry is slated for Tuesday, while Warren will speak Wednesday — the same night as the vice presidential nominee that Joe Biden is expected to announce imminently. They join a lineup that includes party stalwarts such as the Obamas, Clintons and Bidens, as well as progressive leaders New York U. S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and U. S. Sen. Bernie Sanders — a reflection of the moderate presumptive Democratic nominee’s efforts to unify the party’s center with its left wing moving into the general election fight.
