'We do it together,' Ann Arbor Black Lives Matter protesters stand with Jacob Blake

An Ypsilanti-based nonprofit organization has been hosting protests in support of the Black Lives Matter movement across the southeast region for many months. 

An Ypsilanti-based nonprofit organization has been hosting protests in support of the Black Lives Matter movement across the southeast region for many months. But Saturday’s protest in Ann Arbor was in the name of Jacob Blake, a 29-year-old Black man who was shot seven times in the back by police on Aug.23 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Blake survived the shooting but has been left paralyzed from the waist down. Protests have been sparked across the nation standing in solidarity with Blake, especially in the city of Kenosha itself. The protest in Ann Arbor was hosted by Survivors Speak. Organizer Trische’ Duckworth was joined by Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, a Democrat from Dearborn, Washtenaw County Prosecutor-elect Eli Savit, attorneys, local pastors, election candidates and more. « Ironically enough, this is the 57th anniversary of the weekend of the March on Washington, » said Duckworth. « It’s an honor, but it’s sad that 57 years later, we’re still marching. We’re still protesting. We’ve got to put an end to it. But how do we do it? We do it together.
