Chicago Cubs championship architect Theo Epstein steps down

Theo Epstein is leaving the Cubs after nine seasons, including winning the World Series in 2016.
Chicago Cubs drought buster Theo Epstein will step down as president of baseball operations on Friday. Epstein,46, has been with the Cubs for nine seasons. When he arrived, he tore the club down to rebuild it, and after a few lean years, the project culminated in the 2016 World Series title. The Cubs hadn’t won the championship in 108 years. The team announced that general manager Jed Hoyer will take over for Epstein. Theo Epstein helped to snap two of the longest droughts between World Series titles all-time, first helping the Red Sox win it all in 2004 and then repeating the feat with the Cubs in 2016. « For the rest of my life, I will cherish having been part of the great Chicago Cubs organization during this historic period, » Epstein said in a statement.
