Rep. Cheri Bustos tests positive for Covid-19

The Illinois lawmaker, chair of the DCCC, is one of the several members of Congress to have quarantined in recent days.
Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-Ill.) said on Monday she had tested positive for Covid-19. Bustos, via Twitter, said she was experiencing mild symptoms, self-isolating in Illinois and planning to work from home until cleared by her physician. She did not say how she might have become infected, but added that she had contacted all the people she’s interacted with. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee chair also used her announcement as a warning to her followers about the skyrocketing coronavirus cases across the country. On Monday, Illinois announced 11,632 newly confirmed cases — almost twice the number in the state since the beginning of November. Mayor Lori Lightfoot of Chicago has already announced new stay-at-home advisories, which began Monday morning. “We must all continue to be vigilant in following public health best practices: wear a mask, practice social distancing, get your flu shot and wash your hands,” Bustos tweeted. “The only way we will get this pandemic under control is by working together.” Bustos, who narrowly won reelection this month, is one of the several members of Congress who have either tested positive or are quarantining. Rep. Tim Walberg (R-Mich.) also said on Monday that he had tested positive. Like Bustos, he said his symptoms were mild and added that he hadn’t attended a public event in more than a week, implying that his exposure to other people was probably minimal.
