Salesforce to acquire Slack for $27.7 billion

Salesforce today confirmed that it will be buying collaboration service Slack for $27.7 billion, calling it a « match made in heaven ». The deal is yet to be approved by shareholders and regulators.
Less than a week after reports began floating of Salesforce’s potential interest in acquiring Slack, the two companies made it official today as the CRM giant will be acquiring the enterprise communication and collaboration offering for a whopping $27.7 billion. The acquisition is the largest that the CRM giant has made, making it bigger than rival Microsoft’s acquisition of LinkedIn for $26.2 billion. Interestingly, the company’s share price dropped yesterday when rumors of today’s announcement began making the rounds since the deal could involve a dilution of shares of existing shareholders for the financing.
