Seven Democrats filed an ethics complaint against Hawley and Sen. Ted Cruz on Friday, calling on the Senate to investigate the Republicans’ role in inciting the riot that stormed the Capitol.
Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) on Monday countered an ethics complaint filed against him by a group of Senate Democrats over his challenge to the Electoral College certification, accusing the group of “knowingly submitting a frivolous complaint” for partisan purposes. On Monday, Hawley penned an op-ed in the New York Post that appeared on the conservative tabloid’s front page that calls on Republicans to take a stand against the “muzzling of America.” In the op-ed, Hawley claims Democrats tried to “reprimand” him because he wouldn’t “conform.” Hawley was the first senator to announce he would object to the Electoral College certification and was pictured raising his fist to the crowd outside the Capitol before many of them invaded the symbol of American government.
