President Biden’s new gun control agenda, announced Thursday to include a bunch of new rules, regulations and limits, could be called the « Hunter Biden Act » for one provision, according to constitutional expert and Georgia Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley. It’s because of the president’s demand for enhanced and expanded « red flag » laws. Those are statutes that allow someone, often a co-worker or a family member, to warn authorities about the « condition » of another person. Those police agencies then are legally allowed to confiscate any weapons that person may have. There are several states, such as Colorado, the scene of the recent grocery store massacre that left 10 dead, where those provisions already are in force. The president cited that as one of a handful of agenda points on his to-do list regarding gun control. Turley said because of that provision, a legislative proposal could be named after the president’s scandal-plagued son, Hunter. « Biden is giving the Justice Department [a] 60-day period to develop model ‘red flag’ legislation that would allow friends and family members to identify an individual as a potential danger, thereby temporarily preventing the person from accessing a firearm, » he said. « That could well be called the Hunter Biden Act.
