Hurricane Season About To Take A Major Turn For The Worse, Government Forecasters Say

A new storm hasn’t formed in over a month, but that’s all about to change, according to forecasters.
Despite no new storms forming in more than a month, government forecasters at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are upping their outlook for the Atlantic hurricane season, in what could make for a frenetic next few weeks. 65%. That’s the probability NOAA is giving for an above-average season, defined as more than 14 named storms. It’s only putting the chances for a below-average season at 10%. The 2021 Atlantic hurricane season got off to a record-breaking start, with Elsa becoming the earliest « E » storm to ever form. It also briefly became the season’s only hurricane so far, before making landfall in Florida and racing up the U.S. East Coast, where it notably flooded some New York City subway stations.
