“Gotta catch ’em all” seemingly didn’t apply to criminals. Two former LAPD officers have lost their appeal for reinstatement after getting fired in 2017 for playing “Pokémon Go” while on the job. The case came to light via a series of court documents published Friday by the State of California. The fiasco occurred on April 15, 2015, while ex-LAPD cops, Louis Lozano and Eric Mitchell, who were on the foot patrol beat, had received a superior’s request for assistance during an active robbery at a Macy’s in the Crenshaw Mall. However, they reportedly ignored the call on account of playing “Pokémon Go,” an augmented reality game, which involves pursuing virtual anime critters through real physical spaces, according to docs. Their dereliction of duty was reportedly doubly negligent given that it was a “busy” Saturday with more “calls than police cars available to respond,” per the complaint.
