The Arizona state Senate passed a measure on Tuesday that would prohibit abortions in the state after 15 weeks of pregnancy as the U.S. Supreme Court considers a similar Mississippi law in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. Senate Bill 1164, sponsored by Republican state Sen. Nancy Barto, passed 16-13 along party lines. The bill now moves to the state’s House of Representatives. The state House, also Republican-led, is likely to approve the bill, with Republican Gov. Doug Ducey expected to sign it into law. “The state has an obligation to protect life, and that is what this bill is about,” Barto said during the session. “A 15-week-old baby in the womb has a fully formed nose, lips, eyelids, they suck their thumbs. They feel pain. That’s what this bill is about.” Barto added, “I believe our constitution stands clearly for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and the first part of that is life.” Arizona Senate Passes Bill to Ban Abortions After 15 Weeks, Saving Hundreds of Babies https://t.
