A solemn President Biden, at moments choking up, promised Tuesday that “white supremacy will not have the last word” while visiting Buffalo, the site of the most horrific hate-fueled attack in the nation since he took office. Biden touched on gun control in a 15-minute speech, but focused on the scourge of white supremacy brewing beneath the surface of American society — the toxic views that led an accused teenaged gunman to kill 10 people at a supermarket in a predominantly Black area on Buffalo’s East Side on Saturday.
“White supremacy is a poison,” Biden declared to applause in the gym of a Buffalo community center. “It’s been allowed to fester and grow right before our eyes. No more.”
