Total eclipse of the moon: How to watch next week's total lunar eclipse in Central Indiana

Conditions will be ideal for viewing the total lunar eclipse in Indiana Sunday. The total eclipse will be visible for about an hour and a half total.
Mark your calendars, Hoosiers: A total lunar eclipse will be visible from the Midwest from late Sunday night to the early hours of Monday morning. The total eclipse will last from 11:29 p.m. Sunday to 12:54 a.m. Monday. A total lunar eclipse is sometimes known as a « blood moon » due to its orangey-red hue, though Brian Murphy, director of Holcomb Observatory and Planetarium at Butler University, specified that term is not used in astronomy. During a total lunar eclipse, the only light reflecting onto the moon is coming through the Earth’s atmosphere. Thus, the light from all the sunrises and sunsets in the world are « projected » onto the Moon, causing it to appear red, according to NASA.
