VLC Media Player blocked in India and here’s what the govt said on the ban

After reports of the VLC ban came to light, the Internet Freedom Foundation (IFF) filed an RTI (Right to Information) in June with the department of telecom (DoT) seeking the reason behind the ban.
VLC Media Player, developed by VideoLAN, has been banned in India. In fact, the company commenting on India Today Tech’s article said that the platform was banned on February 13 and they do not know the reason why. The company is still clueless about why VLC has been banned without any prior notice.
After reports of the VLC ban came to light, the Internet Freedom Foundation (IFF) filed an RTI (Right to Information) in June with the department of telecom (DoT) seeking the reason behind the ban.
As per some of the latest tweets by IFF, DoT transferred RTI to Meity or the Ministry of Electronics and Information and Technology, which replied on July 14 without providing any clarity on the reason of VLC ban.
