Mayhem erupted at Westminster Hall Friday night when a man was arrested after allegedly rushing toward Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin as the late monarch lied in state.
The shocking scene played out around 10 p.m. in front of dozens of horrified witnesses who waited in line for the better part of day to pay their respects to Elizabeth.
The suspect had darted out of the line and climbed up the steps to the catafalque and touched the coffin before he was taken into custody by Metropolitan Police, The Guardian reported.
Screenshots from the broadcast of the solemn ceremony show security officers pinning the suspect to the ground as other mourners look on in disbelief.
