Jets upstart quarterback Mike “F’ing” White nearly led the Jets to a comeback victory, but an interception with 10 seconds left by Vikings safety Camryn Bynum ended the Jets’ upset hopes and gave the Vikings a 27-22 victory.
The Jets fell to 7-5 on the season, hurting their playoff chances. The Vikings improved to 10-2.
The Jets had several chances to win the game late in the fourth quarter, but came up short.
The final chance came when the Vikings punted and the Jets took over at the Minnesota 43 with 1:19 to play. White hit Garrett Wilson for a 18-yard pass that put them at the 19, but the drive stalled there. White threw three straight incompletions and then was picked off at the goal line by Bynum to end the threat.
The Jets’ first chance to take over the game came with 5:30 left at their own 16 and down 27-22 and a chance to take the lead. White missed Wilson on first down on a deep pass, but then connected with Corey Davis for a 23-yard pass. White found Davis again on fourth-and-10 from the Vikings’ 47 with a 31-yard pass that moved the ball to the Minnesota 16. The throw by White came after he was blasted by Danielle Hunter on third down and got up slowly. He shook off the effects of the hit quickly and found Davis across the middle of the field.
The Jets moved the ball all the way to the 1-yard line, but could not punch it across the goal line. On fourth-and-goal from the 1, White threw a quick slant to Braxton Berrios, who could not pull the ball in, giving the ball back to the Vikings.
Minnesota ran three plays, forcing the Jets to use their timeouts, but gaining only 2 yards. That led to the punt, which set up the final chance for the Jets.
White outplayed Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins, who had long stretches of inaccurate throws.
