It looks like Mastodon is failing to keep its new users interested. Since its popularity peaked in early December, there are now 30% fewer active users on the platform which has been touted as a less toxic alternative to Elon Musk’s Twitter, The Guardian reports.
Statistics posted by Mastodon show that in the first week of January, the site had roughly 1.8 million active users, a contrast to a peak of 2.5 million active users in early December.
Its growth has largely been attributed to Elon Musk’s turbulent takeover of Twitter: Before he became CEO of the platform at the end of October, Mastodon had just 500,000 active users.
