Harry’s ceremonial puck throw at the Vancouver Canucks hockey game on Monday had a touching link to his late grandmother.
Prince Harry’s surprise appearance at a hockey game in Vancouver, Canada, on Monday with Meghan Markle had a touching link with his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, which has been praised by fans on social media.
Harry and Meghan were photographed at the Rogers Arena watching the Vancouver Canucks vs. San Jose Sharks game on Monday evening, after Harry visited some of the sites in the region that will play host to his Invictus Games veterans tournament in 2025.
The 2025 games will be the first in the tournament’s history to feature winter sports in its roster of events for injured, sick or wounded ex-armed forces personnel to take part in.
At the beginning of the game, Harry was welcomed onto the ice in his capacity as founding patron of the Invictus Games and Invictus Games Foundation to throw the ceremonial puck.
Watched on by Meghan and spectators the prince did so, echoing an honor that was also offered to his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, during her visit to the same arena in 2002.
Canada is one of the 15 Commonwealth realms that counted Queen Elizabeth (and now Harry’s father, King Charles III) as monarch.
