Jon Stewart returned to host “The Daily Show” on Monday for the first time since his 2015 departure, and he brought viewers with him, as the episode had the late-night political show’s highest viewership in six years, according to data from Comedy Central parent Paramount Global.Key Facts

Nearly 1.9 million people tuned in to watch Stewart behind “The Daily Show” desk again, the majority of whom watched on Comedy Central.

It was the largest audience for a “Daily Show” episode since March 28, 2018, around the middle of Trevor Noah’s tenure as host, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

In Stewart’s last complete season, he had around 1.3 million viewers, the Associated Press reported, though that number fell quickly under Noah, who had about 372,000 in 2022—mirroring an industry-wide fall in late-night TV ratings, as traditional TV competes with streaming services for viewers’ attention.
