Longtime real-life couple Kit Harington and Rose Leslie – who played the ill-fated lovers Jon Snow and Ygritte on « Game of Thrones » – formally announced their engagement today in the Times newspaper in the UK, according to the BBC .
The actor couple were fan favorites on the wildly popular HBO series, but their feisty on-screen romance ran out of chances for a rekindle when Leslie’s character took an arrow in battle.
But Ygritte’s phrase to her lover – « You know nothing, Jon Snow » – lived on in meme and gif infamy on the internet.
Leslie left the GOT cast in 2014, but rumors about Harington and Leslie as a long-term couple were confirmed when they arrived at a red carpet event together last year.
In a 2016 Vogue magazine interview, Harington said his fondest memory of filming GOT was when the cast was in Iceland in 2012, when he started working with Leslie.
« Because the country is beautiful, because the Northern Lights are magical, and because it was there that I fell in love, » he said.
« If you’re already attracted to someone, and then they play your love interest in the show, it becomes very easy to fall in love. »
