Selenskyj: Neue Raketen erfolgreich getestet

Kimberly Guilfoyle chosen by Trump to be the US ambassador to Greece
On Tuesday night, Donald Trump announced his decision to honor yet another television personality with a role as he continues to fill positions ramping up to his second term in office, tapping his son Donald Trump Jr.’s ex-fiancé, Kimberly Guilfoyle, to be the U.S. ambassador to Greece.
As Politico points out in their coverage of Guilfoyle’s nomination, she isn’t the first person with ties to the Trump family chosen for a foreign policy role, with Charles Kushner — whose son Jared is married to Ivanka Trump — chosen alongside her as ambassador to France.
In a post to Truth Social, Trump described Guilfoyle as a « close friend and ally », and sang her praises as the perfect fit for the role, writing, « Her extensive experience and leadership in law, media, and politics along with her sharp intellect make her supremely qualified to represent the United States, and safeguard its interests abroad. Kimberly is perfectly suited to foster strong bilateral relations with Greece, advancing our interests on issues ranging from defense cooperation to trade and economic innovation. »
In a post to X accepting the president-elect’s appointment, Guilfoyle wrote, « I’m honored to accept President Trump’s nomination to serve as the next Ambassador to Greece and I look forward to earning the support of the U.S. Senate », adding that she’s also looking forward to « delivering on the Trump agenda. »
“I am so proud of Kimberly. She loves America and she always has wanted to serve the country as an Ambassador. She will be an amazing leader for America First,” Donald Trump Jr. wrote in a post to X, showing his support.

Brain bleed sent Jamie Foxx into a stroke — what to know about the dangerous condition

0

Jamie Foxx opened up about the brain bleed that nearly killed him. Neurosurgeon Dr. Paul Saphier exposes the dangers of this complication and how to reduce risk.
Actor and Grammy winner Jamie Foxx opened up about a medical emergency that was nearly fatal.
In his Netflix comedy special, « Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was », Foxx revealed that he suffered a brain bleed in April 2023 that put him into a coma for several weeks.
« I was fighting for my life », Foxx said. « April 11, I was having a bad headache, and I asked my boy for an aspirin … before I could get the aspirin … I went out. I don’t remember 20 days. »
Foxx received surgery to respond to the brain bleed that led to a stroke.
Foxx’s doctor at Piedmont Hospital reportedly declared, « If I don’t go in his head right now, we’re going to lose him. »
« On May 4, I woke up. When I woke up, I found myself in a wheelchair. I couldn’t walk », Foxx went on.
In time, and with the help of his family and faith, Foxx slowly recovered in what he considered to be a « miracle. »
Three months after he privately battled his « medical complication », the actor spoke out about the matter in a video he posted to Instagram, in which he admitted he went to « hell and back. »What is a brain bleed?
Foxx’s experience was no joke, according to Dr. Paul Saphier, M.D., a neurosurgeon and founder of Coaxial Neurosurgical Specialists in New Jersey.
In a conversation with Fox News Digital, Saphier shared the dangers of brain bleeds, or hemorrhagic stroke, which account for 10% to 15% of all strokes.
The condition affects approximately 70,000 to 80,000 U.S. patients per year.
A brain bleed causes blood to pool between the brain and skull, which prevents oxygen from reaching the brain, according to Cleveland Clinic.
The first symptom of a brain bleed is a sudden, severe headache, but can also include nausea and vomiting, confusion, dizziness, slurred speech, sleepiness and lack of energy.
Some potential causes of a brain bleed include head trauma, blood clots, a weak spot in a blood vessel, a brain tumor and other abnormal occurrences, per Cleveland Clinic.
They can also occur due to issues related to high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, smoking, alcohol abuse and age, Saphier stated.
« These bleeds can also be related to blood vessel issues, such as brain aneurysms and vascular malformations », he added.
As brain bleeds and heart health go hand in hand, Saphier promotes heart-healthy living as a way to decrease risk.
« For patients with a strong family history of intracranial hemorrhages, the American Heart [Association] and American Stroke Association recommend screening for brain aneurysms and vascular malformations for early detection and prevention », the doctor noted.Quick treatment is essential
Nearly 45% of patients with a « spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage », or brain bleeding, do not survive, according to Saphier.
About two-thirds of these survivors reportedly do not return to their « pre-hemorrhagic stroke baseline. »
If a brain bleed is not treated quickly, it can lead to permanent damage, including memory loss, difficulty swallowing and speaking, coordination challenges, numbness or weakness in body parts, vision loss, and emotional changes, Cleveland Clinic states.
To reduce the risk of brain bleeding, Cleveland Clinic recommends managing blood pressure, lowering cholesterol levels, maintaining a healthy weight, limiting alcohol consumption, stopping smoking, eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly.
« A general principle that I tell my patients is that any type of lifestyle activities that are considered heart-healthy are also healthy for the brain and its blood vessels », Saphier advised.
« If someone does have a strong family history of brain aneurysms, or [intracranial] hemorrhages, they should discuss [it] with a primary care doctor, as they may be a candidate for brain aneurysm screening and prevention », he added.

South Korea police raid President Yoon’s office over martial law declaration

Special unit says it has raided the presidential office as well as police agencies as part of insurrection investigation
South Korean police have raided the office of President Yoon Suk Yeol over his role in declaring martial law last week – a move that plunged Asia’s fourth-biggest economy into crisis and caused alarm among its allies.
South Korea’s Yonhap news agency said the search on Wednesday was part of an attempt by law enforcement agencies to establish whether Yoon’s actions, supported by other senior figures in his administration, amounted to insurrection – a crime that does not carry presidential immunity and can carry the death penalty.
A special investigation unit confirmed it raided the presidential office and other agencies. “The special investigation team has conducted a raid on the presidential office, the National Police Agency, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, and the National Assembly Security Service,” the unit said in a message sent to Agence France-Presse.
Earlier on Wednesday, the former defence minister was formally arrested on insurrection charges related to the brief declaration of martial law, a court spokesperson said.
Kim Yong-hyun, who had first been detained on Sunday, has now been arrested on charges including “engaging in critical duties during an insurrection” and “abuse of authority to obstruct the exercise of rights”.
A spokesperson for the Seoul Central District Court told AFP that the formal arrest of Kim came amid concerns that evidence might be destroyed.
Two top police officials were also taken into custody in the early hours of Wednesday, as the investigation into the political turmoil caused by the martial law declaration gathered pace.
At least several hundred protesters rallied late on Tuesday outside the National Assembly, waving glow sticks and holding signs that read, “Impeach Yoon Suk Yeol, the insurrection criminal.”
The offices of ruling party lawmakers were being vandalised, local media reported on Tuesday, with one image showing a door covered in what appeared to be ketchup, and eggs and flour scattered on the floor.
Protesters also were sending condolence flowers to the offices, typically reserved for funerals, to express their opposition to the boycott, with signs reading “insurrection accomplices”.
Local police in Seoul’s Dobong district told AFP that an unspecified “weapon” was found in front of PPP lawmaker Kim Jae-sub’s residence, and he has requested additional security.
Yoon suspended civilian rule a week ago and sent special forces and helicopters to parliament, before lawmakers forced him to rescind the decree in a country assumed to be a stable democracy.
Kim was contrite on Tuesday, saying through his lawyers that “all responsibility for this situation lies solely with me”.
He “deeply apologised” to the South Korean people and said that his subordinates were “merely following my orders and fulfilling their assigned duties”.
Earlier on Tuesday, Army Special Warfare Command chief Kwak Jong-geun told lawmakers that Yoon had ordered him to stop enough MPs from gathering at parliament to vote down the martial law decree.
“The president called me directly through a secret line. He mentioned that it appears the quorum has not yet been met and instructed me to quickly break down the door and drag out the people [lawmakers] inside,” Kwak said.
Lawmakers passed a motion on Tuesday to appoint a special counsel to investigate the martial law case.
Yoon’s ruling party said it is forging a “resignation roadmap” that reportedly could see him step down in February or March before fresh elections, while the opposition plans to organise an impeachment vote every Saturday.
A day after Yoon was barred from travelling abroad, authorities banned more top officials from leaving the country, including Cho Ji-ho, commissioner general of the Korean National Police Agency, police told AFP.
Cho and Kim Bong-sik, the head of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, were arrested early on Wednesday without warrant, Yonhap news agency reported. They can be held for up to 48 hours for questioning before a formal arrest.
Already under a travel ban are the former defence and interior ministers and martial law commander General Park An-su, who along with other top brass was grilled by lawmakers on Tuesday.
Yoon narrowly survived an impeachment effort in parliament on Saturday as tens of thousands braved freezing temperatures to call for his ouster. The motion failed after members of Yoon’s ruling People Power party (PPP) boycotted the vote, depriving the legislature of the necessary two-thirds majority.
The PPP says that Yoon, 63, has agreed to hand power to the prime minister and party chief, prompting the opposition to accuse it of a “second coup”.
A party task force was reportedly reviewing two options for a way forward, including for Yoon to resign in February with an April election, or to step down in March with a vote in May.
With the opposition holding 192 seats in the 300-strong parliament, only eight PPP members need to vote in favour of a new impeachment motion for it to pass.
Last week, two PPP lawmakers – Ahn Cheol-soo and Kim Yea-ji – voted in favour, and two more said Tuesday they would support the motion this time.

Trump selects FTC Commissioner Andrew Ferguson to chair agency

President-elect Trump has tapped Andrew Ferguson to serve as chair of the Federal Trade Commission, of which he already serves as a commissioner.
President-elect Trump has tapped Andrew Ferguson to serve as chair of the Federal Trade Commission, the anti-trust agency of which he already serves as a commissioner.
« Andrew has a proven record of standing up to Big Tech censorship, and protecting Freedom of Speech in our Great Country », Trump said in a Tuesday statement posted to his Truth Social network. « Andrew will be the most America First, and pro-innovation FTC Chair in our Country’s History. »
« Andrew will be the most America First, and pro-innovation FTC Chair in our Country’s History », he added.
Ferguson is one of two Republican commissioners on the five-member panel chaired by Lina Khan. Ferguson, who also served as the solicitor general of Virginia, was appointed to the commission by President Biden and joined the FTC on April 2.
The FTC is charged with acting as an anti-trust and consumer protection agency.
The replacement of Khan likely means that the FTC will operate with a lighter touch when it comes to antitrust enforcement. The new chair is expected to appoint new directors of the FTC’s antitrust and consumer protection divisions.
Khan became a lightning rod for Wall Street and Silicon Valley by blocking billions of dollars’ worth of corporate acquisitions and suing Amazon and Meta while alleging anticompetitive behavior.
Under Khan, the FTC blocked a proposed merger between Korger and Albertsons, two large supermarket chains which forged a $24.6 billion deal in 2022.
On Tuesday, a judge halted the merger after the FTC filed a lawsuit to block the move, alleging it would lead to high prices and lower wages for workers.
Ferguson’s experience could signal continued scrutiny of large tech companies.
In a statement earlier this month, he called for the prosecution of « unlawful collision » between online platforms that could limit « Americans’ ability to exchange ideas freely and openly. »
« In particular, we must vigorously enforce the antitrust laws against any platforms found to be unlawfully limiting Americans’ ability to exchange ideas freely and openly », he wrote.

Yankees Win Bidding For Star Southpaw Pitcher Max Fried

0

The Yankees lost one bidding war (Juan Soto) but won another (Max Fried) at the Baseball Winter Meetings.
Just days after losing the top hitter on the free-agent market, the New York Yankees have landed the top left-handed pitcher.
They signed two-time All-Star Max Fried, soon to turn 31, on an eight-year, $218 million contract that becomes official if he passes a physical.
Paired with holdover right-hander Gerrit Cole, a former Cy Young Award winner, Fried gives the Yankees a powerful left-right tandem at the top of their rotation. He also continues a team tradition of strong southpaw starters that dates back to Hall of Famer Whitey Ford but also includes current Cooperstown candidates CC Sabathia and Andy Pettitte.
To get Fried, the Yankees had to engage in their second bidding war of the week.
After losing Juan Soto to the crosstown Mets Tuesday, the Yankees added an eighth year to their original offer, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network. Contract terms were reported by Jeff Passan of ESPN.Yankees Up Their Offer
Because the Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays and Texas Rangers were also finalists for Fried, according to Joel Sherman of The New York Post, the Yankees reached deep into their coffers to secure the pitcher’s signature. He wound up with more years and more money than Blake Snell, a two-time Cy Young Award winner who signed last month with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
That signing may have knocked Fried, a Santa Monica native, out of a reunion with former Atlanta teammate Freddie Freeman, most recently the World Series MVP whose home run heroics gave the Dodgers the 2024 world championship over the Yankees in five games.
Fried, a control artist known for keeping the ball in the park, will earn an annual average salary of $27.25 million per year. No money is deferred and there are no opt-outs included. What Yankees Lose
Because Fried rejected a qualifying offer from the Atlanta Braves, his only major-league team to date, the Yankees will lose their second and fifth-highest picks in the 2025 amateur draft plus $1 million in international bonus pool money.
But owner Hal Steinbrenner had to soothe the angst of Yankee fans disappointed that he couldn’t extend Soto, who hit a career-best 41 home runs last season.
Fried will join a rotation headed by Cole and American League Rookie of the Year Luis Gil. After that, the choices range from Carlos Rodon, like Fried a left-hander, plus righties Marcus Stroman and Clarke Schmidt.
The team still needs help at other positions, however, with only shortstop Anthony Volpe a sure thing in the infield and only American League MVP Aaron Judge certain to start in the outfield.
The money the Yankees saved by losing Soto could be used to address those concerns.
Fried, whose first full season as a starter was 2019, has crafted an excellent 3.07 earned run average in 824 2/3 innings pitched since then. He is 73-36 over eight seasons in the majors.
Even with the Fried signing, the Yankees have a projected payroll of $257 million, according to Roster Resource, trailing the Mets and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Now that Fried has agreed to terms, the top free agent market in the market is Corbin Burnes, a former Cy Young Award winner most recently with the Baltimore Orioles. His asking price has probably jumped because in the wake of the Fried signing.Braves Not Involved
Fried’s former team, the Braves, were never serious bidders. Atlanta general manager Alex Anthopoulos has a reputation for extending position players out of fear that pitchers are injured more often.
In fact, Spener Strider, the only young Braves arm to get a long-term deal missed most of the 2024 season after an elbow injury spotted after two starts.
Atlanta’s probable pitchers for next season include veteran lefty Chris Sale, coming off an 18-win season that produced his first Cy Young Award; fellow veteran Reynaldo Lopez, who made a successful conversion from reliever to starter; and youngsters Spencer Schwellenbach and Strider.
Candidates for the fifth spot include former postseason hero Ian Anderson, erstwhile All-Star Bryce Elder, and rookies AJ Smith-Shawver and Hurston Waldrep.
After winning a surprise world championship in 2021, the Braves had two 100-win seasons without reaching the final round again. The Yankees last won a World Series in 2009.

Who Is Tom Dickey? What We Know About Luigi Mangione's Defense Lawyer

Dickey, who has been practicing criminal law for more than 40 years, urged the public to presume Mangione is « innocent. »
Pennsylvania attorney Thomas Dickey has been hired to lead the defense of Luigi Mangione, who was arrested and charged on Monday in last week’s killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
Dickey appeared alongside Mangione on Tuesday during an extradition hearing at Pennsylvania’s Blair County Courthouse, where the defendant was ordered to be held without bail pending his potential extradition to face murder charges in New York.
While speaking to reporters outside the courthouse, Dickey said that he would be filing a writ of habeas corpus to challenge the legality of his client’s detention and indicated that he was « glad » for the « outpouring of support » that Mangione was receiving from some online.
« If you’re an American and you believe in the American criminal justice system, you have to presume him to be innocent », Dickey said. « None of us would want anything other than that if that were us in those shoes. So, I’m glad he has some support. »What is Tom Dickey’s background?
An experienced trial lawyer in his 41st year of private practice, Dickey graduated from Altoona High School and Saint Francis University before obtaining his law degree from Ohio Northern University.
Dickey has worked in both private practice and with the Blair County Public Defenders Office. He is representing Mangione as private counsel. In addition to his courtroom work, Dickey has acted as a legal analyst for CNN and other media outlets.Tom Dickey’s previous cases
Dickey has worked on a wide range of criminal cases, from DUIs to death penalty murder cases. A page on his law firm’s website points out that two of his cases were « specially featured in a state-wide legal journal, The Legal Intelligencer. »Can Tom Dickey practice law in New York?
While Dickey has represented clients throughout Pennsylvania and in federal court, it is unclear whether he is licensed to practice law in New York state. On Tuesday, he told reporters that he may represent Mangione if the suspect faces murder charges in the Empire State.
« That could be a possibility », Dickey said when asked whether he would « be able » to represent Mangione in New York during a press conference at his law office.
