In a perfect example of poacher-turned-gamekeeper, Israeli company Shine — known for producing ad blocking software — has rebranded as Rainbow and will instead offer an advertising service. Rainbow will work primarily will telecoms companies, and will have a strong focus on targeted advertising.
The company says that it wants to provide « a better ad experience for consumers », having apparently decided that blocking ads was not working for everyone. Rainbow aims to win round consumers by providing and opt-in service that means people will see only advertisements that comply with industry standards and observe privacy rules.
It’s a move that’s not entirely dissimilar to the route taken by Adblock Plus producer Eyeo. Having determined that simple ad blocking was too blunt a tool, the company launched its controversial  » acceptable ads  » program which gave users the option of blocking advertisements other than those that deemed to cause as little irritation as possible.
But Shine’s transition to Rainbow, and its marked change of direction, does not mean that the company is becoming an ad network like Google.
Like Eyeo, Rainbow will vet and validate ads, and the company says that this is something that will be free for both consumers and publishers. Money will be made by selling data to advertisers that is gathered by analysing network data — something that may raise privacy concerns, despite Rainbow’s supposedly privacy-centered outlook for ads.
Rainbow aims to work not only with mobile carriers, but also ISPs — but one of its first partners is mobile network Three in the UK.

Cytat ten padł w wypowiedzi prezydenta USA, który bronił swej polityki imigracyjnej, wskazując na Paryż, Szwecję i – generalnie – Europę jako negatywny przykład takiej polityki.
Zapytany o te uwagi Trumpa prezydent Hollande powiedział, że niedawno w rozmowie telefonicznej Trump zapewniał go, iż « kocha Francję » i że « nie było piękniejszego kraju niż Francja ».
W zamachach terrorystycznych we Francji, do których doszło w latach 2015-2016, zginęło łącznie ponad 230 osób.

Not content with publishing details of an unpatched Windows bug , Google has now gone public with a security vulnerability in both Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer. Going under the description of « Type confusion in HandleColumnBreakOnColumnSpanningElement », the bug has the potential to allow an attacker to execute malicious code.
The vulnerability has been assigned the code CVE-2017-0037, and details of the flaw have been published under the terms of Google’s Project Zero. Microsoft was notified about the problem 90 days ago, and as the company failed to patch it Google has made the problem public.
An explanation of the browser bug can be found on the Project Zero website , and while the issue has been found in the 32-bit version of Internet Explorer specifically, the 64-bit version of IE, as well as Microsoft Edge, are said to be vulnerable to the same exploit.
As Microsoft has not commented on the discovery, it is not clear whether the problem was due to be fixed in this month’s Patch Tuesday. Microsoft did go as far as releasing a security patch for Flash, but the remainder of the scheduled patches for February have been pushed back into March.

Johaug, która była uznawana za absolutną faworytkę MŚ, została zdyskwalifikowana na 13 miesięcy po wykryciu w jej organizmie niedozwolonego sterydu clostebol. Był jednym ze składników maści, którą stosowała na poparzone słońcem usta. Do rywalizacji biegaczka powróci 19 listopada.
„Nie zgadzam się z tą karą i już dzień wcześniej powiedziałam Therese, że pobiegnę dla niej. Dzisiaj podczas biegu cały czas o niej myślałam i zastanawiałam się, jakby wyglądał z nią, mistrzynią świata sprzed dwóch lat z Falun w stawce. Na pewno byłby inny” – powiedziała Bjoergen norweskim dziennikarzom po zdobyciu 15. złotego medalu MŚ w swojej karierze.
Zdaniem skandynawskich ekspertów Bjoergen może zostać „królową” tych mistrzostw i zdobyć złote medale w pozostałych konkurencjach, w których wystartuje. Tak zrobiła podczas MŚ w 2011 roku w Oslo i w dwa lata później w Val di Fiemme. Przed dwoma laty w Falun wywalczyła dwa złote medale.
Norweżka już wcześniej zapowiedziała, że nie wystartuje w sprincie drużynowym, a w sprincie indywidualnym odpadła w ćwierćfinale.
« Pozostają jednak jeszcze trzy potencjalnie złote starty. W biegu na 10 kilometrów techniką klasyczną jest wielką faworytka, podobnie na 30 kilometrów techniką dowolną, a sztafetę raczej na pewno wygra Norwegia. W ten sposób Bjoergen może zakończyć te mistrzostwa z czterema złotymi medalami” – skomentował ekspert od biegów narciarskich kanału telewizji TV2 Odd – Bjoern Hjelmeseth.

MGM, the independent studio behind the James Bond franchise, is in “advanced talks” to sell the company to a Chinese buyer, a senior source said.

The firm is also a one-third owner — with Lionsgate and Paramount — of Epix, the premium movie and TV service.
The name of the China-based entity involved in the talks, perhaps newly formed to make the deal, could not immediately be learned. It is, however, the latest in a string of China investors looking for deals in Hollywood.
The film studio is owned by a slew of hedge funds including Kevin Ulrich’s Anchorage Capital Group and Highland Capital. Other investors include Daniel Loeb’s Third Point.
MGM emerged from a complex bankruptcy in 2010 whereby debtholders were able to convert their holdings into equity. The firm was loaded with $3.7 billion of debt at the time of its bankruptcy.
A deal with the Chinese entity could become complicated. Chinese nationals are having a hard time getting visas to enter the US, sources told The Post. The Beijing government is also cracking down on how much cash can leave the country.
Such rapid global changes are weighing on Dick Clark Productions, which made a $1 billion deal to sell itself to Wanda.
That deal is now all but dead, industry sources said.
A spokesman for MGM said “MGM is in the strongest position ever and is not for sale.”

Berlin (dpa) – In einem bislang einzigartigen Mordprozess um ein illegales Autorennen in der Berliner Innenstadt wird am Montag mit Spannung das Urteil erwartet.
Angeklagt sind am Landgericht zwei junge Fahrer von aufgemotzten Sportwagen, die in der Nacht zum 1. Februar 2016 einen Unfall verursachten. Einer der Fahrer rammte einen Jeep, dessen 69-jähriger Fahrer starb. Die Anklage lautet auf Mord und. Die Staatsanwaltschaft hat lebenslange Haft gefordert.
Ein Mordvorwurf ist in Fällen von illegalen Rennen mit tödlichem Ausgang bisher in Deutschland nach allgemeinem Kenntnisstand nicht erhoben worden. Meist wurde bislang wegen fahrlässiger Tötung angeklagt und verurteilt. Ein derartiges Urteil für den Todesfahrer streben auch die Verteidiger an. Das würde höchstens fünf Jahre Gefängnis bedeuten.
Die beiden Fahrer im Alter von 27 und 25 Jahren überfuhren bei der Raserei über den Kurfürstendamm mehrere rote Ampeln. Auf der Verlängerung des Ku’damms, der Tauentzienstraße, an einer Kreuzung kurz vor dem Luxuskaufhaus KaDeWe, rammte der 27-Jährige den Jeep. Der Fahrer des Jeeps hatte Grün gehabt, der gerammte Geländewagen wurde 70 Meter weit über die Straße geschleudert. Das Auto des zweiten Fahrers stieß mit einigen Straßenbegrenzungen zusammen. Beide Raser wurde kaum verletzt.
Im Laufe des Prozesses äußerten sich die beiden Angeklagten nicht zu den Vorwürfen. Eine Verkehrspsychologin beschrieb einen der Männer als Autofahrer, der « massiv selbstüberschätzend » unterwegs gewesen sei. Bei dem Rennen sei es ihm darum gegangen, « zu gewinnen und dadurch sein Ego aufzuwerten ». Der zuletzt arbeitslose 27-Jährige habe seinen gebraucht gekauften Sportwagen nach eigenen Angaben « geliebt » und damit sein Selbstwertgefühl gesteigert. Die Psychologin erklärte weiter, mehrfach sei der Mann wegen Verkehrsdelikten aufgefallen, « aber nicht mit der erforderlichen Härte bestraft worden ». Bei dem 27-Jährigen habe « kein echtes Erkennen der eigenen Schuld begonnen ». Es bestehe ein hohes Rückfallrisiko.
Die Schuldfrage in diesem Prozess steht fest, die rechtliche Bewertung der Tat und die Höhe der Strafe ist aber sehr umstritten. Die Staatsanwaltschaft forderte lebenslange Freiheitsstrafen für beide Männer. Nach ihrer Argumentation wollten die Männer bei ihrem Rennen zwar niemanden vorsätzlich töten, sie hätten aber mögliche tödliche Folgen billigend in Kauf genommen. Juristen nennen das einen bedingten Vorsatz.
Die Verteidiger der Fahrer sehen das anders. « Der Raserei ein Ende machen darf man nicht, indem man die Gesetzeslage unzulässig ausweitet und verschärft », hatte ein Anwalt im Prozess argumentiert. Der Vorsatz, an einem Rennen teilzunehmen, sei nicht mit einem Tötungsvorsatz gleichzusetzen.
Die Anwälte des 27-Jährigen plädierten daher auf einen Schuldspruch wegen fahrlässiger Tötung. Die Verteidiger des 25-Jährigen sahen bei ihrem Mandanten nur eine Gefährdung des Straßenverkehrs und forderten zwei Jahre Gefängnis auf Bewährung. Der 25-Jährige könne für den Tod des Opfers juristisch nicht mitverantwortlich gemacht werden.
Ein Verteidiger argumentierte, Raser wie sein Mandant seien « zu einem bedingten Vorsatz schlichtweg nicht fähig ». Ihnen würde bei « bei so einer Fahrt das Risiko nicht in den Sinn kommen ». Die Männer seien davon ausgegangen, alles unter Kontrolle zu haben. In Selbstüberschätzung hätten sie sich auf ihre Fahrkünste verlassen und keine hohe Gefahr gesehen.

Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly heavyweight Shigeru Uchida, a former secretary-general of the ruling liberal Democratic Party’s Tokyo chapter, said Saturday he will not seek re-election when his current term ends in summer, citing age and health concerns.
The 77-year-old Uchida, who is said to also have had clout in national politics and often clashed with Tokyo Gov. Yuriko Koike, told reporters he will not run in the next assembly election in July.
“I was worried whether I would be able to serve as an assembly member for the next four years,” he said, adding he made the decision around the end of 2015.
Uchida has expressed his intention to quit as head of the LDP Chiyoda Ward branch after a newcomer candidate with the party’s backing lost the Chiyoda mayoral election earlier this month to the incumbent, who was backed by Koike.
But he also suggested that wouldn’t entirely retire from politics.
“I’ve been nurtured by the LDP. I want to contribute to the party as long as my physical condition allows,” he said.
Commenting on Uchida’s retirement, Koike told reporters it was a sign.
“I think many people are feeling that there is a new momentum pushing in to the Tokyo assembly,” the governor said.
Uchida, who once served as chair of the Tokyo assembly, was first elected in 1989. He is currently in his seventh term.

Following the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor, war jitters swept the Southland. By February 1942, air-raid sirens, searchlights and antiaircraft guns filled Los Angeles. Blackouts and drills were common.
Then on Feb. 23, 1942, a Japanese submarine surfaced and shelled oil installations at Ellwood, north of Santa Barbara.
